NAPAAHC Hosts Frederick Douglass Dinner

On Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 6:00 P.M., the Florida Landmarks Council in conjunction with The National Association for the Preservation of African-American History & Culture, Inc. hosted the Frederick Douglass Dinner – Salute to the Trailblazers and Historic Preservation Awards at Goodwood Museum and Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

On this most auspicious occasion, the Frederick Douglass Medal for Public Service was awarded to Blueprint 2000 (City of Tallahassee), U.S. Rep. Alfred Lawson, Jr., Mayor John E. Dailey, Mrs. Beth LaCivita, Ms. Annie S. Harris, Mr. Sean Pittman, Esq., State Rep. Ramon Alexander, Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox, Ms. Asia N. Alexander and the late Mrs. Clifton Van Brunt Lewis, Mr. Gerald V. Ensley, Dr. Charles U. Smith and Dr. Charles L. Evans, Sr.

The Florida Landmarks Council, dedicated to preserving Florida’s rich historical and cultural resources, serves as an advocate for the preservation and restoration of historical properties significant to the state. The mission of the Council is to serve as a resourceful aid, and research assistance entity, established to preserve the illustrious history of Florida. This statewide council serves as a catalyst for instituting innovative ways in which to display, protect, illuminate and maintain the important landmarks that exist to tell the story of yesteryear, while documenting oral histories and educating the public about the contributions of some little-known history makers who have rendered meritorious service to the citizens of Florida.

The purpose of the Frederick Douglass Dinner was to honor the philanthropic and/or humanitarian contributions of those pioneers who have advocated for the arts, museums, libraries, stories, and preservation of the state’s historical resources.
